The architecture & design of 8528 was personally led by Andrés Villaveces, co-founder of Métrica Architects, from its earliest design concepts through construction. Métrica is intentionally a small studio, allowing Andrés to remain deeply involved in every project and every detail—an approach reflected throughout 8528 in its proportion, materiality, precision and architectural continuity.
While the studio is intimate by design, the experience behind it is extensive and international. Andrés earned his Master of Architecture from the University of Washington, where he studied under Pritzker Prize laureate Glenn Murcutt, before training with Suyama Peterson Deguchi in Seattle and Rafael Viñoly Architects in New York and Abu Dhabi—some of the most distinguished names in contemporary architecture.
With Rafael Viñoly Architects, Andrés spent four years in Abu Dhabi leading the delivery of the 400,000-square-foot NYU Abu Dhabi Campus Center, experience that continues to inform Métrica’s rigor, precision and approach to materials, proportion and construction.
Andrés and Juan León founded Métrica in 2014, and in 2017 Andrés relocated to the Seattle/Bellevue area to expand the studio’s residential practice in the Pacific Northwest. The firm’s portfolio includes custom residences, significant renovations and mixed-use projects throughout the region. Andrés’ design for the National Museum of Memory received an AIA Merit Award for Concept Design in 2016.
Today, Andrés also serves as Vice Chair of the City of Bellevue Planning Commission. He is a Registered Architect in Washington and Florida, a member of the American Institute of Architects and the National Council of Architectural Registration Boards, and a Certified Passive House Consultant.
